Año 1562. Bajo un gran secretismo, Felipe II ordena construir una imponente fortaleza militar en la escarpada sierra de Bernia, ubicada a caballo entre las actuales comarcas alicantinas de la Marina Baixa y la Marina Alta. Su llegada al lugar marcará el inicio de una nueva etapa en sus vidas, llena de encuentros y desencuentros, de identidades ocultas, de lucha de religiones, de amores sinceros, de mujeres y hombres que desafiaron al poder establecido, de la búsqueda de aquellos a quienes se da por perdidos, de batallas históricas y angustiosas persecuciones que pondrán a prueba la auténtica amistad, aquella que nunca se quiebra ante las más duras adversidades. Un trepidante relato cuya trama conduce al lector por algunas de las principales ciudades del espectacular norte alicantino, una zona donde montaña y mar se abrazan, así como a la mismísima batalla de Lepanto, de la que se cumplen ahora 450 años. Con esta novela el autor nos hace viajar por una zona de gran valor natural, histórico y humano como es el norte de Alicante, llena de cautivadoras montañas, agrestes valles y encantadores pueblos en los que el tiempo parece haberse detenido.
