The Cristero War was a dark period of Mexican history. It was essentially a Catholic Holocaust that occurred in 1920s Mexico. Due to the actions of various people and organizations, Mexico went from a socialist country based on a code of atheism to a country where a vast majority of its citizens are Catholic.
