Escritor francês, foi o gênio criador de um enorme número de personagens que enriqueceram contos infantis no século 17. Dele nasceramA Bela Adormecida, O Gato de Botas, A Gata Borralheira (Cinderela), Chapeuzinho Vermelho e o Pequeno Polegar.Charles Perrault nasceu em Paris, França, no dia 12 de janeiro de 1628. Filho de Pierre Perrault e de Paquette Le Clerc, estudou no Colégio de Beauvais, onde chamou a atenção com um brilhante estudo de literatura. Ali já prenunciava como passaria para a imortalidade na história humana, mesmo que seu curso de formação nada tivesse com sua carreira literária, formou-se em Direito em 1651.Os contos de fadas surgiram de verdade quando já com quase setenta anos, Charles Perrault começou a fazer registros de histórias populares que ninguém sabia ao certo como começaram, mas que eram do cultivo das matronas da época e das avós para entreter e educar suas crianças. Ele registrava cuidadosamente, dando acabamento mais chamativo e buscando a moral de cada história popular, inclusive dando nome aquelas que não tinham consenso de título.Então, em 1697 publicou a coletânea com título de Contos da Mamãe Gansa onde reunia histórias, como Chapeuzinho Vermelho, A Bela Adormecida, A Gata Borralheira, O Gato de Botas, Cinderela, Barba Azul, As Fadas e O Pequeno Polegar.Poucos anos mais tarde, Charles Perrault faleceu em Paris, no dia 16 de maio de 1703 deixando imortalizadas histórias que rodaram o mundo em versões para desenho animado, livros didáticos, peças teatrais, músicas, festividades, televisão e cinema.
