The Unschooling book ’Chess-parenting’ presents a revolutionary concept to parenting that is based on mutual respect and on the fact that parents too need to grow up! It criticizes the way we manipulate and program our children to become copies of ourselves and of society, and how we expect them to obey and live by values we never teach or demonstrate. Chess, as a means to establish some equality and to give kids a chance to win, is shown to develop values such as truth, courage, commitment and self-responsibility. This lifts kids beyond mere opinion and indoctrination and enables them to establish true confidence, a sense of reality and a relationship with the parent where the parent is no god-like figure.Western society does not value truth and it is disrespectful to children, which is the cause of most problems with ’crazy teenagers’, who simply want to find their own way. Chess fosters respect and it naturally evolves those attitudes towards life that build character and that achieve naturally all we try to force down our children’s throat! It is the way to competence, for both parent and child!

Second, and closely related to the first tenet, man is not separable from his environment. We all share in this...
