A Guerra Fria simbolizou um período de tensão geopolítica entre a União Soviética e os Estados Unidos e seus respectivos aliados, o Bloco Oriental e o Bloco Ocidental, após a 2ª Guerra Mundial até a dissolução da União Soviética em 1991. Essa tensão foi caracterizada pela luta ideológica entre estes dois principais personagens.Essa disputa alastrou-se pelo globo dividindo o mundo entre os defensores do capitalismo e do comunismo. Um confronto bélico entre os dois blocos somente não ocorreu de maneira explícita devido ao receio do desencadeamento de uma guerra nuclear definitiva, porém não impediu que várias nações travassem guerras devidamente apoiadas pelas então superpotências.Cada participante defendia uma ideologia a qual pretendia influenciar o seu bloco. Os Estados Unidos democrata capitalista e a URSS socialista/comunista.Com o desmantelamento da União das Repúblicas Soviéticas (URSS) na última década do século XX era de se esperar que o seu fracasso refletisse na extinção de tal ideologia, porém isso não aconteceu. O Comunismo se reinventa e devido ao desgaste do rótulo anterior, apresenta-se com uma nova roupagem neste século: ESQUERDA.No passado o extinto Movimento Comunista Internacional (MCI) exercia a sua influência internacional, hoje através de novas convenções, muitas das vezes, aparentemente desconexas, continua no seu trabalho, outrora silencioso e paciente para recolocar o comunismo, agora renomeado de esquerda, no Poder. E aí tem a China.
