Les concepts de culture matérielle, qui mettent l’accent sur l’importance de la consommation et de la matérialité dans la compréhension des dimensions de la vie sociale, les relations de stratégie et de tactique qui existent dans l’idéalisation de la mode et l’adaptation pour l’appropriation des comportements à la mode, la conception occidentale de la mode afin de comprendre le modèle structuré au milieu du XIXe siècle qui constitue le modèle en vigueur, et la conception de l’identité dans la postmodernité, dans une analyse de la façon dont les transformations promues à la fin du XXe siècle ont ébranlé la perspective d’une identité unifiée, donnant lieu à la notion de multiplicité identitaire, collaborent avec l’hypothèse présentée.
